DCP Provides Guidance for Flood-Impacted Businesses
The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection has issued guidance for businesses impacted by the extensive flooding, building, and road damage caused by the Aug. 18 storm.
The guidance offers tips to business owners for proper clean up and disposal of debris and damaged products.
The agency recommends restaurants, package stores, or grocery stores that sustained inventory damage follow the guidance for cleaning up and destroying damaged goods.
Earlier this week, the White House approved the Lamont administration’s request to authorize a federal emergency declaration for Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties in response to storm.
The administration is also conducting detailed damage assessments to determine if cost thresholds were met that would trigger a major disaster declaration and the release of federal funding for rebuilding and repairing damage to eligible public and uninsured private property.
Recovery Efforts
“We know that recovery efforts from the devastating flooding that occurred will continue for several weeks, and even months,” DCP commissioner Bryan Cafferelli said.
“As business owners begin to move into the next stages of cleanup we want to continue to offer them as much guidance and support as we are able to.
“Any business owner who is unsure what to do with damaged products should reach out to our agency for assistance.
“We are working closely with the Department of Public Health to ensure everyone has the information and resources they need.”
Business owners who need additional guidance or support can contact DCP’s Food and Standards Division by emailing dcp.foodandstandards@ct.gov.
Those with a liquor permit may contact the agency’s Liquor Control Division at DCP.liquorcontrol@ct.gov.
