CBIA Response to October 2023 Employment Report
The state’s largest business organization issued the following response to today’s release of the October 2023 employment report.
CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima called the addition of 3,700 jobs in October “another reason for optimism.”
“The labor force also grew for the second consecutive month in October, and September’s numbers were revised higher to a 3,700-job gain.
“These numbers combined with recent U.S. Census data showing a net 57,000 people moved to Connecticut last year, show that our state’s economy is gaining steam.
“It’s important that we seize this opportunity, build on this momentum, and work to further grow the population and fill the open jobs.
“Connecticut has 96,000 job openings—essentially 1.5 jobs for every unemployed person in the state—and solutions like ones CBIA has put forth to further address affordability, childcare, and housing are critical to filling these rewarding career opportunities.
“With a loss of 800 jobs in October, and 1,100 over the last 12 months, the manufacturing sector remains an area that requires our focus.
“The jobs are there—but we hear from our manufacturers that they need more people.
“It’s critical to expand career pathways to ensure that the manufacturing ecosystem and all industry sectors continue to be positioned for growth.”
CBIA is Connecticut’s largest business organization, with thousands of member companies, small and large, representing a diverse range of industries from every part of the state. For more information, please contact Scott Beaulieu (860.244.1929).
